Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Ref: MDE/2019

Department: Design and Development

Reports to: Technical Manager

MISSIONS

Responsible for the mechanical design of a wide range of machine and tools used within industrial applications and also providing technical support to other company departments.

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take technical lead on specific projects as identified by the project manager. Additionally, will assist the Technical Manager in coaching other Mechanical Engineers to develop Design skills and work to the departmental processes.

Carries out detailed mechanical design work including 3D modelling, simulation (eg thermal & stress) and design verification testing, as required. Agreeing the mechanical design approach with the Technical Manager and project manager.

Responsible for the specification compliance of designs Responsible for mechanical part selection taking into consideration obsolescence, availability and cost

Responsible for preparing and presenting mechanical designs at design reviews

Highlights all mechanical technical risks to the project Manager

Keeps up to date with the latest manufacturing techniques and drawing standards

Responsible for reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the Technical Manager and Project Management teams

QUALIFICATIONS

 Mechanical Engineering Degree

EXPERIENCE

Mechanical Design with extensive experience in a similar role ideally within design and development industry or similar.

 Solidworks experience desirable. Autocad/Inventor experience also acceptable

Familiarity with technical specifications

Supervisory experience desired.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

Ability to understand/produce technical drawings and co-ordinate with the other discipline Engineers (electronics and optics), and to produce multidisciplinary design solutions.

Able to report mechanical design status on the assigned tasks whenever asked.

Able to either answer all queries relating to the mechanical design or to field them to the relevant member of the department.

Liaises with other company employees regularly to update design status

Collates cost data relating to the mechanical design

Ensures the mechanical design functionally meets the user’s requirements

Produces designs to specified deadlines and achieves the required timescales

Sets an example to the other members of the mechanical design team on how to

manage designs
