Production Shift Leader

Reports to: Production Responsible

Purpose of the Role

As a Production Shift Leader, the role consists of leading and coordinating production activities during the assigned shift to ensure that operational targets (quantity, quality, cost, safety) are met. The position ensures that the team operates in compliance with the company’s lean manufacturing standards, environmental, health & safety (EHS) policies, and continuous improvement culture.

Key Responsibilities

    1. Lead and coordinate the production shift team to achieve daily production goals, including throughput, on-time delivery, and scrap/rework targets.
    2. Monitor and control production processes: line setup, machine/equipment operation, and materials/components availability.
    3. Ensure compliance with quality standards and procedures; identify non-conformities and initiate corrective actions.
    4. Enforce safety, EHS rules, and housekeeping standards on the shift.
    5. Drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives (standard work, 5S, Kaizen) within the shift.
    6. Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, quality, materials, and planning functions to ensure smooth operations.
    7. Plan and allocate staffing/resources for the shift; manage absenteeism, overtime, and team competency development.
    8. Generate and communicate shift reports: production output, scrap/rework rates, downtime, and performance metrics.
    9. Participate in problem-solving and root-cause analysis for recurring production, equipment, or quality issues.
    10. Support implementation of corrective/preventive actions and process improvements.
    11. Facilitate new product introductions (NPI) or process changes: prepare shift, train operators, update documentation.
    12. Foster a positive team environment: motivate, engage, and promote collaboration and adherence to company values.
    13. Maintain continuous monitoring and improvement of production efficiency, safety, and quality standards.


Required Skills & Competencies:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience in manufacturing.
2. 3–5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in electrical/electronic components or heating elements.
3. Previous experience in a supervisory or team leadership role on the production floor.
4. Strong leadership and people management skills; able to lead, motivate, and develop a shift team.
5. Good understanding of manufacturing processes, machine operations, changeovers, quality control, and lean principles.
6. Excellent problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis and driving corrective actions.
7. Knowledge of production scheduling, capacity planning, and material flow.
8. Familiarity with quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001), EHS regulations, and lean tools (5S, Kaizen, Standard Work).
9. Ability to interpret production metrics, downtime reports, scrap/rework data.
10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional coordination.
11. Proficiency in relevant software/tools (ERP/MRP, Excel, production tracking).
12. Results-oriented, proactive, hands-on, with a continuous improvement mindset.
